Event Planning for this trip is well under way! I'm planning several fundraising activities to help raise the $10,000 cost of the trip. In case you were wondering, that total covers airfare, food, lodging, and transportation between countries once I'm overseas.
Check back with this website over the next few weeks to see when and where the first event will be. I'm tossing around some ideas right now involving a Coffee/Cafe Night with Live Music, and a Bake/Craft Sale, and Restaurant Night. Maybe even a car wash, I dunno!
If you have ANY suggestions for fundraisers or craft ideas, please feel free to drop me an email.
Cheers!

You Got Some 'Splainin to Do
For those of you who've read my blogs before, and I'm guessing that might be about 2% of you, you know how much I LOVE Timelines. They put everything in perspective. So lets get started by me explaining...well how this all started.
After visiting Europe in June 2007, I got the itch for traveling abroad. I already knew that I liked to travel for long periods, my job had taught me that. And I absolutely fell in love with Europe. SO, I started thinking of ways I could get back...
Fast forward to April/May 2009, and now I've really got Europe on the brain. But more than just wanting to go and backpack or re-locate on my own terms, I started wondering if maybe my trip could have more of a purpose. So then I started praying about it. And asking God if there might be something for me to actually "do" while I'm there. Because I started to realize over the past 2 years that just doing things my way doesn't seem to nearly satisfy as well as trying to figure out God's will for me. Tricky Business.
But Europe just kept creeping up. In conversations, in thoughts, and so by June I decided to actively figure out a way to go...and soon. I researched on the internet, and that's when I came across the OM. Operation Mobilization designs short to long term mission trips for individuals or groups.
It kind of breaks down like this in my head...
Ideally I would love to work and live in Europe for 3-6 months. Traveling is a bonus, as would be any video production work. And it would be GREAT to get paid...you know, enough to live. BUT, I'm willing to go as a volunteer first if necessary. Cause either way it's an amazing opportunity.
So I contacted the OM in June, and we chatted about my goals. And the first week of August they asked me to fill out an application. And last week they informed me that my application had been accepted here in the States and abroad, and they've...got...an...idea.
Transit Challenge 2010 is a first time project for the OM. It will be a traveling team made up of 7-8 individuals from around the world. Our purpose is to provide support for local OM workers, while staying 3-4 weeks in each country. We could be working with kids, leading sports camps, or helping the community. We arrive in the UK first to train, and then travel to Germany, Austria, Moldova, Italy, Belgium, and the Balkans. I'm hoping there might be some camera work involved for me too!
So, I've started this blog to document the whole experience. Lets just dub Sept 1st as Day One of this Adventure. My next goal is to turn my energy towards saving and raising money for the trip. Which...I'll admit is a little ambitious. I've only got 4 months...BUT, there are 2 ways to look at it as I see it. One, Impossible...or Two, A really BIG Adventure. :)
Would you like to get involved? You can start by just praying for this trip and keeping me in your thoughts! Maybe you have ideas or advice for me? I'll take it!
If you would like to donate...I'll be working the details out on that soon. Stay tuned and watch for updates on prep for Transit Challenge 2010!!!
